The first associations with Salzburg,
are always Mozart, festivals, and music; the name, however, stands for much more - for an entire province. Each year this province attracts visitors from all over the world, since it offers magnificent scenic diversity, ranging from the glittering lakes of the Salzkammergut and the high Alpine national park of the Hohe Tauern to the valleys of the Lungau, Pongau and Pinzgau with their natural beauty.
The city of Salzburg itself with the fortress Hohensalzburg, the baroque Cathedral, the abbey of St. Peter, the Residence of the Salzburg Prince Archbishops, the Getreidegasse with Mozart's birthplace, Hellbrunn Palace with its trick fountains and its unique atmosphere not only during the festivals, is the cultural centre of the country.
Fascinating destinations for excursions are the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, the Gastein valley with its spa resorts, the castle Hohenwerfen, the "Silent Night" chapel in Oberndorf, and the salt mines in Hallein.
In winter the innumerable ski resorts guarantee unrestrained pleasures and excitement. The most renowned among them are the Salzburg Sportwelt Amadé, the Europasportregion Kaprun / Zell am See, the Gastein valley, Obertauern, and Saalbach-Hinterglemm an Alpine Ski Worldcup Championship venue every year.
In summer the lakes offer all the possibilities for water sport. In addition, any other leisure activity can be pursued as well. Local folklore and traditions just like the diverse dining choices make each stay in Salzburg an unforgettable event.
