Fyrkat -
The monument

The fortification Fyrkat was built on the same geometric principal as "Trelleborg". Fyrkat was however a little smaller and had no front fortification.

Fyrkat and "Trelleborg" was built during the same period around year 980 and the excavation of the burial ground tells us that families lived at Fyrkat.

Apparently only one of the four houses in each block was used for residential purposes. The other houses were used as smithy, warehouse, stable and workshop for the gold- and silversmith.

During the summer period the whole family can take part in activities in the smithy, bakery and more.

Outside the fortification you will find a full sized copy of a Fyrkat house, here Viking plays are taking place every summer.

Close to the fortification a reconstruction of a farm is taking place. This will be a true copy of a magnate`s farm from Vorvasse.
