As of 18 October 96 France Telecom introduced 10-digit numbers. For numbers listed on this service, i.e. Southern France, the area code is 04 when calling from within France, international code (00) 33 4 followed by the 8 digit number.
Other areas:
Paris region, previously 16 ~ 1 is now just 01.
North west: 02
North east: 03
South east and Corsica: 04
South west 05
Numbers which do not change: 12, 13, 14, 15,17,18, and the 4 digit Minitel numbers.
Number 11 (the directory via Minitel) is now 3611.
Most mobile phone services get the prefix 06.
The 8-digit numbers starting with 36 are now 0836......
Freephone numbers, previously 05 are now 0800 ......
Calling France from abroad: international prefix 33, and omit the 0 in the 10 digit number.
International calls from France: the 19~ is replaced by 00.
