Liechtenstein Stamps
The Postage Stamp Museum
The Postage Stamp Museum of Liechtenstein has been in existence since 1930. A large collection of issued stamps from Liechtenstein dating back to 1912 and swopped stamps, dating from 1921 onwards, from other countries belonging to the International Philatelic Society, aroused an interest in opening a postal or stamp museum in Vaduz.
Many other items connected with local issues were also available to this special collection of Liechtenstein: sketches, designs, prints, printing and colour samples and other interesting material even from the times before there were any Liechtenstein stamps, in the time of Austrian or Swiss stamps that were valid in their own right or in conjunction with prepayment from Liechtenstein.
In addition to this, Consul Hermann E. Sieger from Lorch/Wuerttemberg donated a stamp collection on the founding of the museum.
Apart from these stamp collections there was, in 1930, also a number of printing plates, philatelic documents and other various items relevant to the history of the Liechtenstein postal service available. At the moment the Postage Stamp Museum is to be found on the ground floor at Staedtle 37 in Vaduz. The exhibition shows a representative cross-section of the stamp collection as well as documents and instruments from postal history. Much of the collection is stored in archives and is not available to visitors. As a result of rebuilding works in 1975/76 the exhibition was reformed according to the most modern knowledge available and apart from saving space, the ultimate conditions for protecting items on display from damaging light were achieved.
A summary of philatelic history from long ago up to the present day is displayed in over 300 frames. Part of the exhibition is arranged thematically and also presents original sketches and designs and other material concerned with the production of stamps. Apart from the permanent exhibition there are also, from time to time, temporary exhibitions of special issues or particularly successful stamp designers. The museum is run by a department responsible in Liechtenstein for the production of stamps from the choice of subject to the final product. The collection at the museum itself, and collections that are sent by the museum around the world arouse a great deal of interest among philatelists and other visitors.

How to Order Stamps
Stamps are issued four times a year in Liechtenstein, at the beginning of March, June, September and December. This is usually a total of about 25 stamps with a face value of approx. 35 CHF per year.
Stamps can be bought at the post offices in Liechtenstein. Collectors of stamps issued in Liechtenstein can place a standing order for new issues.
