RECREATION
| | Liechtenstein
is offering a true natural experience. The Liechtenstein alpine region with alpine
vallies, sunny plateaux, rugged mountain ridges alternating with gentle, easily-conquered
mountain summits which are hosts to unusual types of fauna and flora, rises up
above the fertile Rhine Valley.
"Historischer Höhenweg Eschnerberg"
(Historical Footpaths on the Eschnerberg)
The historical footpaths
"Eschnerberg" in the Liechtenstein Lower Country were inaugurated in 1975. This
"Inselberg" provided the first settlers with a place to live in the former swamp
of the Rhine Valley. The historical footpaths present a vivid picture of the varied
history of the people who lived in and cultivated this area.
The natural
history is also richly documented here in the form of rock and waters as well
as by the animal and plant world. Apart from the facts given on various information
boards, the paths also provide a great variety of scenery, passing through forests
over meadows. Most of the paths are traffic-free and all the junctions are marked
with the same sign. The suggested walks range in lenght from 45 minutes to
2 1/2 hours.
Recreational area "Weiherring", Mauren "Weiherring"
is a small leisure time park located right in the heart of the village, on about
five acres. The center pavilion, a place for getting together, complete with grill
facilities is surrounded by a halp-pipe, a boccia court, a soccer field, a small
children's playground, a beach volleyball court, a medical herb garden and nice
walking paths.
Bird Paradise "Birka" The
Bird Paradise "Birka" (with a pond biotope under nature conservation) is situated
on the road between Mauren and Schaanwald. In addition to the bird sanctuary there
is also a children's playground. A plaque on the roadside just outside the sanctuary
shows the high level that the water reached during the Rhine flood. |
